Age is just a number

It’s a new day, with a new number.
I leave all my fellow 30-something girls behind,
to step into the fabulous world of 40.

Yep, I’m 40 today!

They say that “Life begins at 40″, well I think I’m pretty sure that was in the old days,
when women looked and behaved much older then the women my age today.

So I couldn’t help but wonder…
Besides growing up, going to school, working, making friends,
falling in and out of love or having children,
what have I been doing all the other 39 years?
Time really flies!
And the funny thing is, I don’t feel older,
or wiser for that matter,
than a couple of years ago, say when I was 36.
Forty just sounds older.

I actually like saying my age now,
because of the reaction most people give me
after hearing how old I am (“What? No way!”).

I just laugh about it.
Like Oprah once said, “I’ve earned these years”,
well that’s my point exactly!

Happy birthday, sweet Maureen! Welcome to the big four-oh. It’s an exclusive club (I only joined it 7 weeks ago) and it’s actually a lot of fun. You’re only as old as you feel (or as Mr PB would say, the woman you feel). How are you celebrating? J x

Nice reading your thought on turning 40 – I join that club in 12 days time – not that I’m counting. What have you done to celebrate this milestone.

Happy Birthday Maureen xx I can relate to what you have written, but in the everyday life that is mine, hearing my gorgeous grown children say I am the best mum and they love to go out and be with me has me feeling young and feeling like I have done great in my 40 something years. Enjoy and live it up, you are beautiful at 20,30,40 just as you are now

Hi Maureen and HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. I loved turning 40 and I am proud of my age especially since most people still think I am in my mid-30’s. I will be 45 in February. Only certain body parts feel older. But when I look around at the kids at school, I feel like I could still be one of them. Ha! Wishing you all the best always, Tammy

Hi Maureen, just discovered your wonderful blog through Sarah at One Perfect Day. What a special day to have found you!! Happy Birthday! I too turned 40 in January and you know I was in denial for a while but now I feel fabulous about it… You are right, it’s only a number and one to be proud of. Funny thing is though when people say someones 43 or 45 I think, oh they’re still young!! Pruxxx
