Home

Home.

It’s just one word, but it means so much.
Tonight is the first Wednesday evening in this new year.
I’m sitting by our glowing fireplace, our first in this apartment,
and I feel
 at home.

It’s strange, this feeling,
because we just moved in three months ago.
But when we came back from our trip to Amsterdam,
 I opened the door
and it just felt good.
Like when you put on an old pair of jeans, you know that feeling?

I love the saying
Home is where the Heart is *.

But what gives your Home it’s Heart?

What is it, that makes you want to go back to it, over and over again?
Where does that smile come from on your face after a holiday,
when you put the key into your front door, knowing what’s behind it?
Or when it rains and you are glad to be inside it,
enjoying a feeling of comfort.

Is it the new furniture, that old dresser or your favourite photo in that special frame?
Is it children growing up in it and making memories within those walls that will
last a life time?
Perhaps it’s the energy floating around,
created by wonderful times with family and friends.

Or is it a combination of it all?

Why is it that when you are on the look out for a new house,
and the moment you step into a place, a house can make you feel
all tingly and excited
and you know it’s the right house for you.
That this is The One that will make you feel at Home.

Feeling at home.
It says it all.
It’s an emotion.

And with all the negative things that are going on in this world,
feeling at home is even more important.
Create your own, positive, world in your house, apartment,
studio, ranch or mansion.
Dress it up with beautiful old or new things.
Share it with family and friends and fill it up with laughter,
dreams, even tears and a lot of joy.
After all, it’s Your Home!
As for me,
I have to get my behind together to dress our home up some more.
The girls are going back to school next week, so no more procrastination for me.
{ahum…., honestly I will try…..}.
And when she is picture ready
(I believe it’s a girl, crazy I know….) I will show photo’s, pinky promise!

So, dear readers of my little corner here in Blogland,
I truly am happy that you visit me still, thank you!
 Welcome to my new readers,
and I wish you all a healthy and positive 2011!
Proost!  Salute!  Cheers!

See you soon!

Ik kom de laatste tijd niet zo aan bloggen toe, maar ik ga het nog niet opgeven hoor!! Het is zo leuk al die lieve mensen. Wat grappig dat er nu ook al een hartje in Engeland hangt! By kuzz gaat internationaal haha!
Ik ben geveld door de griep dus ik kruip snel onder mijn dekentje.
    Fijne dag, liefs Erna

Hi Sweetie Welcome back! I think it’s a combination of all of the above. I’m thrilled that’s how you feel in your new place. And I adore those tea light houses – I looked on their website but couldn’t find them. Sigh. Were they a one-off, do you know? I’d love to get some. J x

Lovely post Maureen. I totally agree with your comments about a home. It’s strange really, because we’ve been living in our current house for 13 years, and we had been looking at lots of houses. But, as soon as we entered this one, we knew that it was the one for us. Must have an aura about them or something. Mind you, when I’m away, my daughter says that our home is just a house. It’s only when I get back that it becomes a home again, which I thought was very sweet.

Hi Maureen. This was such a wonderful post:) I am such a homebody and i think for me, our home is ‘home’ because it is where my family are. There really is no place like home is there? I am so happy that you feel like this in your new home. Enjoy that cozy fire. Hugs ~ Tina xx

Happy New Year Maureen! Thanks for your little note and I believe I am now back. You got it in a nutshell, as the children put it when we arrived in the door yesterday – it’s hard to say goodbye [to grandparents], but it’s good to be home”.
